Lillian Kae Yoo provides experienced and practical counsel on a broad range of issues for private and public agency clients. Ms. Yoo has successfully handled cases in state and federal court, as well as administrative tribunals, in a wide range of labor and employment disputes, including claims of Labor Code violations, wrongful termination, discrimination, and harassment litigation.
Before joining Burke, Ms. Yoo represented individual union members of the California Teachers Association and United Teachers of Los Angeles in disciplinary appeals regarding various allegations of employee misconduct, including skelly hearings and dismissal proceedings, criminal charges of child abuse, teacher credential review and appeals, and reduction-in-force proceedings. On behalf of school districts and other public agency clients, she now leverages this insider understanding of her opponents to lend her clients a distinct, strategic advantage in court, in negotiations and behind the scenes as strategic counsel. As a result, she has achieved excellent results in defending government tort claims as well as claims of harassment, excessive force, sexual assault, negligence and other allegations of professional misconduct against city officials, law enforcement and school district personnel.
During law school, Ms. Yoo externed with Senior Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and clerked at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. She was also the recipient of the CALI award for the highest grade in her employment law course.
